چکیده

We compare the performance of four recently developed DFT methods (MPW1B95, MPWB1K, PW6B95, and PWB6K) and two previous, generally successful DFT methods (B3LYP and B97-1) for the calculation of stacking interactions in six nucleic acid bases complexes and five amino acid pairs and for the calculation of hydrogen bonding interactions in two Watson-Crick type base pairs. We found that the four newly developed DFT methods give reasonable results for the stacking interactions in the DNA base pairs and amino acid pairs, whereas the previous DFT methods fail to describe interactions in these stacked complexes. We conclude that the new generation of DFT methods have greatly improved performance for stacking interaction as compared to previously available methods. We recommend the PWB6K method for investigating large DNA or protein systems where stacking plays an important role.

MP2 study on the variation of stacking interactions in aniline and some para substituted aniline systems

The use of appropriate level of theories for studying weak van der Waal interactions such as 8-8stacking interactions of aromatic molecules has been an important aspect, since the high levelmethods have limitations for application to large molecules. The differences in the stacking energiesof various aromatic molecular structures are found significant. It is also very important for identifyingt...

A new all-round density functional based on spin states and S(N)2 barriers.

We report here a new empirical density functional that is constructed based on the performance of OPBE and PBE for spin states and S(N)2 reaction barriers and how these are affected by different regions of the reduced gradient expansion. In a previous study [Swart, Sola, and Bickelhaupt, J. Comput. Methods Sci. Eng. 9, 69 (2009)] we already reported how, by switching between OPBE and PBE, one c...

Effects of structure and number of Heteroatom on the π-π stacking interactions of benzene with N-substituted coronenes: A theoretical study

Stability of the π-π stacking interactions in the Ben||N-substituted-coronene complexes was studied using the computational quantum chemistry methods (where Ben is benzene and || denotes π-π stacking interaction, and N-substituted-coronene is coronene molecule which substituted with different number of N atoms). The results reveal simultaneous effects of structure and number of Heteroatom on th...
